Guided Tour In Balboa Park

Went for an hour-long free guided walking tour in Balboa Park this morning with my mom. Ranger Ryan took us to a few spots and talked to us about the architectural and floral history dating back to the very early days of what was first called City Park before the 1915 Panama-California Exposition.

Web deW

It was really foggy this morning and once the sun started coming out it left everything damp and moist including a couple of magnificently large orb-weaving spider webs. What was completely unexpected to me was the refracted purple and green colors inside some of the drops. There are no spiders in these shots.

Pleasing The Larvae

Since all of our milkweed plants had been completely gleaned of juicy, milk-filled leaves by the few remaining Monarch larvae we have, we bought a few more plants to get them bulked up enough for their upcoming pupation phase. They appeared very grateful.

Party For José

Went to a family party at José’s house to celebrate his quick recovery after brain surgery. Even family from out of town showed up for this one. We had fantastic chili, corn bread and dump cake, all home-made by the Tapias.

Walk And Dinner On Coronado

Went for an evening walk with the Tapias from Coronado’s Tidelands Park up to the Old Ferry Landing where we had dinner at Lil’ Piggy’s Bar-B-Q and then walked back to Tidelands Park. I had an incredible Texas Potato with pulled pork and other fixings for my dinner.

Starbucks Run

Went on a quick Starbucks run with Rodrigo to get my tall decaf caramel macchiato with extra caramel and to pick up this week’s iTunes song pick of the week as well as the app of the week. They had no app cards and the song, “Bittersweet Melodies” by Feist, turned out to be a dud. At least the coffee and company were good.

Short Video Chat A La Brenda

Noticed my friend Brenda was available on gmail, took a chance on video chat calling her and it paid off with a brief but enjoyable call where we could see each other from 1,300 miles away. The neck brace was just to help her posture while on the computer. Made me sit up straighter.

Unhappy Day

Dinner And A Show

Had some great Chinese food (Orange Chicken and Coconut Shrimp) from China One in Chula Vista while watching Red, a movie I had been wanting to see for a long time. I hate to admit that I really enjoyed a movie where many people were killed, some quite violently.

Walking IB

Went for a two+ mile sunset walk with the Tapias along the marshes of Imperial Beach. Lots of other walkers and bikers along this striped mini-road of a walkway towards Silver Strand. Stitch had two poops and Lilo just one, all three of which I was entrusted to collect.

Visiting José At Home

Went over to José’s house to visit him after he returned home from his hospital stay for surgery. He is making an incredible post-op recovery and his stapled incision is healing up really well.

Tacos And Donuts

After our evening walk the Tapias and I went to Los Panchos in Chula Vista for an incredibly delicious Mexican dinner, followed by some fantastic donuts conveniently located next door to Los Panchos. We had to replace the calories we had burned with the earlier walk. It’s simple biology.

Evening Walk Along Mission Bay

Went on a three mile walk this evening at Rose Starns Park just south of SeaWorld with the four Tapias. It was a beautiful San Diego dusk and getting out into ocean air and the setting sun felt very refreshing.

At Heather’s Day One: Friends Of Lauren

My first full day of house-sitting for the VS family. Today, in between podcasts, meals, processing photo and an evening walk, I focused my camera on Lauren’s little friends. They all seem like a pretty happy bunch.

In-N-Out Urge

Went through an In-N-Out drive-thru with the Tapias for dinner. Haven’t had an animal style Double Double with cheese in a long time. Great chocolate shake, too.
