Last Day For José

My mom and I went to visit José on his final full day in the hospital. Amazing to think that he had brain surgery just two days ago and tomorrow he’s already going home. Sylvia, Rodrigo, Miguel and his kids and Mari were all there with him. Didn’t stay very long.

Blue Angels At Miramar 2011

Climbed up onto the roof to take telephoto shots of the Blue Angels performing on the first day of the Miramar Air Show. Love seeing them every year, even if it’s from a distance. Ever year our trees get bigger and cover a bit more of the sky. Also hope that by this time next year all of our overhead lines will finally be underground.

Kitten Feeding

Helped my niece Kimi feed the three kittens today. She took care of Ron Burgundy and Mr. Blue, and I had Mr. Pink. These kitties are getting so big, so quickly. They look at you, they wrestle, the scratch themselves, all like real cats only much smaller.

José’s Surgery

Spent the afternoon with my best friend Sylvia’s family at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest. We were there waiting for her father José to have his brain tumor removed. They took him in at 5:00 and at 7:30 the neurosurgeon came into the waiting room and told us that everything went very well. We were able to get a quick “good night” in to him before he was lead into recovery.

Brazen BBQ

Had lunch with Mary at a newly open barbecue restaurant in Hillcrest called Brazen BBQ. It was clean with quick service and really good food. I had a very tasty pulled pork sandwich but the portions were a bit too much, as usual. We noticed quite a few flies on the inside of the windows and they’ll have to do something to fix that situation, but other than that the food was very good. I definitely would go back and eat there again.

Tattle On The Rattle

While watching a large Monarch larva crawl away from the milkweeds, paying attention to where it might be heading to start pupating, I was very fortunate to discover a juvenile rattlesnake hiding behind a clay flower pot on the grass. (For those counting, this makes five since I’ve lived here.) Had I not been watching the caterpillar, I never would have found the snake. Quickly gathered a bunch of snake-catching utensils and a couple of containers and surprisingly easily coaxed it into one of the containers. Drove it down with my mom to the far end of the street and walked it far down into the canyon to release it. Took some pictures of the whole adventure. Never once during this entire episode did it rattle or even seem upset.

Another Baby Pet

My mom found this 4″ baby Alligator Lizard on our dining room floor today. Caught it in a styrofoam cooler and set it free in the backyard. He was not a happy little guy. Hope he grows up to eat many Black or Brown Widows.

Plaza De Panama: My Photos

The Plaza de Panama Project in Balboa Park used eleven of my photos (the ones outlined in red) in their Facebook album of the first public Walking Tour they gave, which I attended. Yay me.

Kittens At Four Weeks

Went to my brother’s house for a noon feeding of his three kittens who turned four weeks old today. They are finally getting to where they can see and track movement. Also finally got a shot of their other, other cat, the rarely seen Lily.

Coffee With Mami

Stopped by a Starbucks with my mom this evening for a short sit-down with coffee and a slice of really good lemon loaf cake. Unfortunately they didn’t have any iTunes music picks of the week, nor the app pick of the week, but they did have the same free book of the week download that has angered so many people because it turns out to only be an excerpt. Coffee was really good, though.

Visiting José

Went to visit my best friend’s father in the hospital again today. Every day seems to bring better outcomes, although he did have to fire his appointed neurosurgeon for lack of communication and concern with hopes of getting transferred to another hospital under a different doctor’s care.

Tacos And Cat Poop

Had a family dinner at my brother Ozzie’s house again. Only a hungover Stephen and both New Mexico Csanadis weren’t there. We had bueno el Mexican food-o with fresh vegetables and sliced peaches as side dishes. Of course we had to play with the almost four week-old kitties, one of who stunk up the joint with its impressive fecal discharging.

My MOG

Created a MOG account to listen to streaming music not because I needed another one besides iTunes, Pandora or Spotify, but because I just could.

Visiting José

Visited my best friend’s father after a terrible and completely unexpected series of symptoms and preliminary diagnoses sent him to the hospital. Simply put, tomorrow’s MRI results will decide his future.

Quick Dinner At Ozzie’s

Went over to my brother’s house with my mom to have dinner with Ozzie, Stephen, Kimi and the three, three and a half week-old kittens. My mom had made some hús leves (meat soup, minus the meat).
