Giant Beetle!

I have never seen such a giant beetle outside of a museum collection or zoo.  My mom found it in one of the flower pots in the backyard.  It seemed like it was very old and possibly dying. I transferred it to a larger pot and took some pictures. It did its best to hide under some larger rocks that I placed into the pot.

Yet Another Earthquake

This one was at 16:53 local time and originally set at a magnitude of 5.7, then upgraded to 5.9 and finally downgraded to 5.4. Centered 15 miles northwest of Borrego Springs.

Spain Beats Germany In South African World Cup Semifinal

Watched Spain defeat Germany 1-0 (in a game well officiated by a Hungarian referee – woohoo!) at the Carvajals’ house in Chula Vista. They were all rooting for Spain while our friend Burkhard in Germany was obviously hoping his team would win.

Spain now faces Netherlands in the finals on Sunday, while Germany plays against Uruguay on Saturday for third place.

Netherlands Beats Uruguay In A World Cup Semifinal

Watched the Netherlands defeated Uruguay 3-2 in the first of the World Cup semifinals. Good game for the most part, but also unnecessarily ugly at other times.

Did Some Bathroom Remodeling

Helped out the Tapias with some bathroom remodeling. Got some delicious rolled tacos for it.

Celebrated The 4th Of July, As Usual, In The Tapias’ Backyard

Had an all-American burger dinner and then took some blurry, hand-held firework shots through the overcast.

World Cup Quarterfinal Matches

Watched Germany beat Argentina 4-0 (so long and good riddance Maradona), and Spain beat Paraguay 1-0 in another very questionably refereed  match.

Another Day at the San Diego Zoo

Spent the day at the San Diego Zoo (my 16th so far this year), most of it with Heather and her daughter Lauren. Here are my 4 four favorite animal photos as well as some lunch pictures. There’s Frank, the under two year old Western Lowland Gorilla, a Flamingo chick and it’s mom, an Orangutan with a Siamang sitting on it’s shoulders and a Pigmy Hippo eating some leaves and berries.

Back at Multi Image

I went back to Multi Image to go over some work for the first time since May 12 of last year. It felt the same but different.

My Google Profile

Created my Google Profile today in anticipation of the release of GoogleMe.

First GeekBeat Episode

Watched the first official episode of GeekBeat since Cali left Mevio and GeekBrief. Gotta love the Cali. Didn’t even have time to miss her. Much.

Domain Transfer

Transferred my pacsworlds.com domain from Godaddy to Hover because of Leo Laporte’s recommendation. Sure had to jump through a lot of hoops to get that done. I feel cleaner now.

Drove from Phoenix to San Diego

After a pretty decent breakfast, we left the Holiday Inn Express in Goodyear and, stopping in Gila Bend, Arizona to walk around, drove back home to San Diego.

Leaving Los Alamos and Heading Toward Phoenix

Left Los Alamos this morning and stopped in Holbrook, Arizona to check out the Wigwam Hotel. Stopped for the night in the Phoenix suburb of Goodyear, where we met up with Kate and her daughter Jazmine for dinner at Cracker Barrel.

Subway Lunch at the Clinic, a Concert and an Opening

Had lunch at the clinic after picking up some sandwiches from Subway. Later we went to a concert at Ashley Pond and attended the opening of the Art Center where Ken took over.
