Douglas Adams Gone Ten Years

Today is the tenth anniversary of Douglas Adams‘ passing. He loved to visit Santa Fe, New Mexico, 45 minutes from where I sit right now.

Today In Los Alamos History

Today I visited Tommy’s office, went shopping for groceries with my mom, picked up Tommy’s dogs from Marvel’s house, took pictures of trees in the wind and had an early birthday dinner for my mom at Marvel’s house. Full day of not much until dinner.

Three For Thor

Went to see Thor with my brother and nephew. Really enjoyed it. Kenneth Branagh did an excellent job making the myths seem believable.

Breaking Fast With My Nephew

After his morning of seeing doctors and lab techs, I took Alex to have a good old-fashioned American breakfast at Viola’s Place here in Los Alamos.

Medical Morning

Took Alex first to his orthodontist for some braces adjustments and then to the clinic to get his wrist x-rayed to see if he fractured it in a fall yesterday. Doesn’t look like he did.

Leg Two

Second day of travel, this time heading to our first destination stay in Los Alamos. Crossed into New Mexico just before 11:00 local time, stopping in Gallup for gas and bladder evacuation. (Did you want to say something, Lisa?) Arrived in Albuquerque at 1:00 and drove north for about an hour to see Alex play his soccer game.  Finally got to Tommy’s house at 4:00.  Stayed in for a while but then went to Marvel’s house for dinner.

So It Begins

Headed out this morning for the first leg of my two and a half week trip to New Mexico and Texas. We hit Arizona at 12:30, stopping in Yuma for a pee break. Stopped again in a 100˚ Gila Bend to fill up and another pee stop. Passed through Phoenix and Flagstaff before finally arriving at the Holiday Inn Express in Holbrook a little before 7:00 and stayed in for the night.

Seeing Brenda Form Her Words

Had a nice pre-trip video chat with Brenda this evening. We talked about her old dogs, her family and my extra nipples.

Hertz Hurts

Picked up our Mazda 6 rental car for our trip. They charge way too much for this. Nothing else to say.

Out To Sea The World

Spent a few hours at SeaWorld San Diego, first on my own, then with Mary and her daughter Diana. A large section towards the back was completely closed off to the public because they started construction on the new Manta roller coaster.

Ron’s Visit

After catching up with my buddy Ron at the airport (he’s a pilot for American and arrived this afternoon), I picked him up from the Harbor Sheraton, took him to Coronado for dinner at Lil’ Piggy’s BBQ (had a groupon voucher), and then walked along the Old Ferry Landing before taking him back. We reminisced about high school and talked about the pitfalls of marriage vs. the satisfaction of being a parent. I’ll have to take his word on both of those.

Tourist In My Own Town

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon walking along the Embarcadero here in San Diego before meeting up with my high school buddy Ron. Went from the County Admin building down to Seaport Village and back, stopping at a few places to capture some images, empty my bladder (yes, Lisa, more pee) and remove a twenty from an ATM. That last thing came in very handy for gas later.

My Expanding Online Empire

Set up yet another new online account, this time with 500px.com, a photo presentation website that gears more toward serious photography. There’s a free account with a 20 photo limit per week, and an unlimited paid account. Both let you create a photo blog and follow other photographers. Within fifteen minutes of posting six shots I had over 50 views and three comments from a Russian, a German and I think a Swede.

UPDATE: Since posting my 20 photos this afternoon, I have received 233 views, 7 favorites, 19 affections (likes), 10 comments and 4 follows, by other photographers from around the world. So cool!

Her Noticing Me Is Becoming Infrequently Regular

Lisa Bettany commented on two more of my Flickr photos: a Disneyland Castle shot and an Inner Space Caverns photo. True, her comments aren’t exactly about the quality of my photos, but being noticed is still nice.

Dog Walk Around Fiesta Island

Walked around Fiesta Island in Mission Bay with the entire Tapia family, including Lilo and Stitch, on an absolutely gorgeous San Diego day. Followed it up with a good Mexican lunch at a recently opened Roberto’s Taco Shop.
