Alligator Closeup

Did some gardening in the backyard this afternoon to get my fingers dirty, and this guy moseyed on by to say hello.

Rings

Worked on one of the photos I took yesterday during Mary’s mom and stepdad’s wedding.

Helping With Giraffe’s Notoriety

The San Diego Zoo tweeted about my baby giraffe photo on Flickr.

Famous Baby

Battle: LA

Went to see Battle: Los Angeles this evening with the Tapias. We were the only ones in the theater. Turned out to be better than I was expecting. Thought the effects would be the only cool parts of the movie but the acting, story and dialogue were surprisingly well done. (Photos courtesy of Rodrigo and his Droid X.)

The Most Casual Wedding Pictures Ever

Took some wedding pictures of a friend’s mother’s civil wedding in downtown San Diego at the County Administration building.

More Baby Giraffe Shots

Spent some time this morning back at the San Diego Zoo, mainly to take more pictures of the baby giraffe that was born two days ago. They know now that it’s a girl. She stands 6’1″ and weighs 172 lbs.

My Second In A Row One-Day Old Giraffe Sighting

Just like last year, I got to see a not-quite one-day old giraffe calf at the San Diego Zoo. Missed both births by less than a day. Still feel pretty lucky, though.

Video Chat With The Tapias and Guests

Had a video chat with the Tapias as well as AdriAne and her daughter Jillian. We tried to come up with names for a cupcake business that nobody else has parked for websites. Towards the end the names ended up turning out quite adult in nature.

Missed Another Baby Giraffe Being Born

Second time now I’ve just missed a giraffe giving birth. I’ll go in the morning to get my own pictures.

Yet Another Online Account

Set up a Posterous account, which I’ve been meaning to do for a while, to fill in the more personal aspects of me. Because I so desperately needed another blog-like site to maintain.

Video Chat #2: Tapias

Had a video chat with the Tapias, but mainly Rodrigo. Saw stitch’s new haircut that at first made Lilo afraid.

Video Chat #1: Brenda

Had a short video chat with Brenda where we talked about her family and my Helldiver book.

Good Mail Day

Received two really cool things in the mail today; my new Disneyland Annual Pass, which I hope to use more often than the last one, and my printed Helldiver book which turned out beautifully. The pages are almost too glossy and too thick but the photos are so rich and sharp.

An Unexpected House Guest

I noticed (actually stepped in, barefoot) some unfamiliar poop in the entryway of our house this afternoon. I knew it wasn’t mine and instantly recognized it as lizard scat from the white tip on one end. The size told me right away that this was no ordinary reptile. It was, in fact, alligator lizard caca. After finishing watching this week’s “Fairly Legal” I donned my tracker’s pith helmet and began crawling along bottom edges of walls and furniture, thinking like a lizard. Wasn’t that much of a stretch. Within minutes I discovered it’s hiding place, mainly because it broke the second cardinal rule of predation; staying quiet. I heard some rustling papers in a corner inside my mom’s room. Luckily she was out at my sister’s, far from this looming danger. I immediately closed all other doors to make sure it didn’t enter another room if it should happen to escape. I ran to the garage and quickly put together a small box to try and capture it in. I returned and slowly uncovered it by removing hoarded stuff from behind the dresser. After it crawled out, I gently coaxed it into the box/trap I had put behind it, covered it, and walked it outside, telling it in lizardian that everything was going to be ok. I sort of nudged it into the roots of a cactus tree mixed with a large, kind of out-of-control geranium plant. I had seen two alligator lizards there before so I figured it would be comfortable there. The end.

Moral of the story is if you ever want to hide in someone’s house, don’t poop in their entryway and don’t crawl on loud paper.

Another Attempt At Witnessing A Giraffe Birth

Spent the day at the San Diego Zoo with Mary and Diana. Was hoping to see the baby giraffe being born since the mom is two weeks overdue. Didn’t happen, but I did see the week-old baby Capybara, the first baby born at Elephant Odyssey. Also watched  a baby Nubian Gazelle being bottle fed.
