Palacsinta And Beans

Had dinner over at my brother Ozzie’s house with my niece Kimi, my mom and my sister Beata. We had green beans and ham followed by palacsinta (Hungarian crepes). It was supposed to be a belated birthday dinner for my nephew, Stephen, but he had not returned from his San Francisco trip in time. After …

The Mouth Of The San Diego River

Went for an afternoon walk with the Tapias from Robb Field in Ocean Beach to the mouth of the San Diego River. So many happy dogs jumping, running and playing in the shallow seawater, including Stitch who never seemed to tire of chasing his soggy green tennis ball. ( w a l k i e …

9/11 Tribute

Posted a personal memorial tribute on Facebook for the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Reliving the whole event, even ten years later and from three thousand miles away, still brings out my unforgiving rage and makes my palms sweat.

What A Difference A Day Makes

After finding a baby Finch chick yesterday morning feeding under the feeder, this morning I was greeted by a lifeless Finch near the very same spot. Had a makeshift burial for it close to where the other birds will be spending their days eating and chirping. Life is fickle. One day it’s here, the next it’s gone.

A Kitten, Another Kitten And Another Kitten

Went over to my brother Ozzie’s house with my mom to be there for a feeding of the kittens. Man, these little kitties are growing fast. Still amazingly cute, even if they do pee on your shirt when you hold them. I’d probably do the same.

Finch Chick

Came across a finch chick when I was refilling the feeder this morning. All the adults flew away to a nearby bush and this little guy stayed on the ground munching away on fallen seeds. It even looked up at me a few times but never considered me a threat. Wish the adults could learn …

No Charge

About 3:30 in the afternoon my computer lost power. I looked around and saw that everything electronic in my room went dark. Went through the rest of the house and confirmed that the entire house was without power. Not having a data plan on my smart phone I couldn’t check the web for news, or …

World’s Funniest Joke

This is directly from Wikipedia: The world’s funniest joke is a term used by Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire in 2002 to summarize one of the results of his research. For his experiment, named LaughLab, he created a website where people could rate and submit jokes. Purposes of the research included discovering the joke that had the widest appeal …

Kitten Patrol: Day Two

Day two of taking care of my brother Ozzie’s newborn kittens, Ron Burgundy, Mr. Blue and Mr. Pink, while he is at work.

Kittens: Day One

Kitten-sat three abandoned kitties that my brother found in his backyard. Fed them each twice and otherwise they just slept until Ozzie and my niece Kimi came to pick them up for the night. Tomorrow will be the same with the possibility of one extra feeding.

Three Tiny Kittens

Went over to my brother Ozzie’s house to learn how to feed the three remaining abandoned kittens they found in their backyard. I need to know so I can feed them during the day for the next three days. Their names are Mr. Blue, Mr. Pink (both from “Reservoir Dogs”) and Ron Burgundy. Also had …

Insect Mania!

Spent a few hours over at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park for Insect Mania Family Day. Watched a presentation (geared mainly toward little children, but I attended anyway) by Dr. Mike Wall, Curator of the Entomology Department, and chatted with both field entomologist, Jim Berrian, who specializes in spiders and who I’ve contacted …

Dinner And Slides

After spending the day at the Zoo, I lead the Rossmans down to Chula Vista where we had dinner at the Tapias’ house. Sylvia and Alex also made cookies and brownies. After dinner, and while having the baked desserts, we all watched the photos that Alex, Cathy and I took during the day as well …

Special Zoo Visit With A Personal Presentation

Was at the San Diego Zoo for most of the day with Fabi, Stephanie, Alex, Cathy and Nathan. The visit was made all the more special when my friend Rick, the Zoo’s Ambassador, took us to a backstage presentation area and gave us a personal educational show with Priscilla, the fifteen-year old porcupine. We even …

Dual Birthday Party

Attended a dual birthday bash for father and daughter Holden in Imperial Beach. It was good to hang out with friends, eat some pretty good food, enjoy some cake and take a few pictures. Enjoyed a terrific chocolate milkshake from McDonald’s after leaving the party and later split a delicious carne asada burrito with Sylvia for …
