Back At The Zoo

After both the Plaza de Panama Project tour and the Veterans Museum, I walked over to spend about an hour at the San Diego Zoo. After taking pictures of stilt walkers, I sat down at the orangutans and siamangs, but started focusing more on the human couples that came through. I started wondering what was …

Veterans Museum and Memorial Center

Followed up my Plaza de Panama Project tour by visiting the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center, also in Balboa Park. They were getting ready for an afternoon function and told me I have about half an hour to walk around and check out the displays. Got taken on a personal tour by docent Terry Truitt …

Plaza de Panama Project

Attended what was supposed to be an hour long walking tour starting at the Museum of Man in Balboa Park, but which turned into a two and a half hour tour, of the Plaza de Panama Project proposed redevelopment of certain areas of Balboa Park before the centennial celebration in 2015. It was led by four …

Fanciful Interpretation

Always loved this 1913 oil painting by A.J. Roberts who worked for the San Diego Decorating Company. It was done as a promotional piece for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition in what was later to become Balboa Park. The description reads, “…depicts proposed Exposition grounds with buildings, lake and gondolas.” Strange to see the river/lake that …

A New Backyard Friend

We were surprised by a new visitor in our backyard this evening. A small weasel. Even though our house overlooks a canyon I had no idea they inhabited our part of town. Was unfortunately not able to get any pictures of it. It was too fast and skittish. But it was really pretty.

Zoo Day With Heather

Spent a few hours at the San Diego Zoo with Heather, starting with her seeing the recently born giraffe calf for the first time. Also got to pet and feed some very old Galapagos tortoises. Since we were at the zoo, we talked biology while riding the Skyfari. Had lunch at Safari Kitchen. ( z …

Veterans War Memorial Building

While waiting to meet my friend Heather at the Zoo, I walked over to the Veterans War Memorial Building adjacent to the Zoo parking lot. I’d seen it many times but never went inside. I was actually surprised to find it open since it seemed like no one was there. Heard a couple of people …

Vid Chat, Bren Style

Had a long-overdue video chat with Brenda in Austin tonight. Didn’t last as long as our usual ones but it was nice to talk to her face.

Another One-Day Viewing Record

Had my best ever single day viewing (2,214) of my Flickr photostream. Why? Because I posted just ten new pictures of girls in costume from this year’s Comic Con. I know some of the people are seriously interested in the quality of the cosplayers’ costumes, but I have a strong suspicion that most of the viewers …

Lizardito – Day Of Tiny, Part Three

A tiny lizard, only about two inches long, let me get pretty close to take some privacy-invading pictures. I think I shall name him Emilio.

Bugs – Day Of Tiny, Part Two

Spent some time outside and away from my computer this afternoon and took some macro photos of insects. Then I came right back inside heading straight for my computer. Learned what a ladybug larva looked like.

Kitten Feeding – Day Of Tiny, Part One

My niece dropped off the three newborn kittens today for us to take care of and feed throughout the day. Had one of the hardest feedings this morning, but also one of the best this afternoon. Their eyes are all open now, but they still can’t focus on things.

Ringer

Watched the series premiere of “Ringer” with Sarah Michelle Gellar. Wasn’t expecting to care for it much since it was on the CW network but I knew she would do a very good job with her character. Turns out I thought it was actually pretty good (despite some cheesy fake boating shots). There were so …

New Fantasy Girls

Finally went back and worked on some more cosplay photos from this year’s Comic Con. Added them to my San Diego Comic Con 2011 Girls album on Flickr.

Inner Earth

Can’t wait to go see this movie at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Hope the music is as amazing as it is in this trailer.
