Fatefully Synchronistic Randomness

I wanted to pick a completely random photo from my external drive (with even my eyes closed and just typing a character) and amazingly landed on this one I made of Randy for his birthday from 5 years ago. Amazing for two reasons: first, Randy’s birthday is this Sunday and second, tomorrow he and I are going to Long Beach for their version of a Comic Con and he’ll be volunteering dressed as an X-Wing pilot from Star Wars. It would boggle my mind if I had one.

I hope you guys had a wonderful time at the con. Even though its the wrong one. (Wait… is there a “wrong” con?)

  1. We had a fantastic time, Lisa. It was so like our Con used to be way back when. Easy to get in, walk around, talk to whomever you want, friendly, no rushing or pushing, easy-going, but still had plenty of picture opportunities. I talked to Bernie Wrightson for about ten minutes even before I went into the building. I talked to Bruce Boxleitner, also for about ten minutes, about Tron. I talked to Peter Beagle, author of “The Last Unicorn.” Met and got an autographed calendar by J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girls). Talked to Gary Lockwood from the original Star Trek pilot and the movie 2001. And took lots of pictures. Also had a great fish taco lunch with Randy. It was a good day.

Wow it does sound like fun, I’m so jealous. Peter S Beagle is one of my dad’s favorite authors, I didn’t know he was still alive! I would have asked for a signed book or something for my dad for xmas had I known… I’m glad you got to go and have a good time.

  2. I am so sorry, Lisa. What a great missed opportunity. I wish I would have known. He had quite a few different books laid out on his table that he was selling. If I find out about any other smaller upcoming Cons that he will be at I will let you know. (Believe it or not, there’s an Oceanside Comic Con happening soon, but I doubt he’ll be there.)

You would have really enjoyed this Con. It was so relaxed and friendly, even for a Saturday. I’ll definitely go back again next year. And a single day was plenty to see everything. That was weird for me.
